Common Problems and Solutions
1. Fan Error
The kernel log will contain sentences similar to the ones below if the Bitmain Antminer S9 series miner’s fan is malfunctioning or unable to run at the required speed.
Solution:
a. Make sure the fan connector is fully inserted into the socket and that the fan cable is free from damage. (Below pictures are bad socket and bad cable examples)
b. Use a good fan in its place as a test. Replace the control board if it doesn’t fix the issue.
c. Reset the miner to factory setting.
d. Bring the miner back to us for maintenance.
2. PIC Error
If the kernel log shows
Solution:
a. Verify the integrity of the connection between the signal cable and the control board. (The left cable in the below picture is a “not connected well” example)
b. A good control board should be substituted to test. Update to the most recent, accurate firmware.
3. Hashboard Issue
Kernel log examples such as missing chips and missing hashboards can be like
Solution:
a. Replace the PSU and check that the miner is properly grounded if there are missing chips.
b. Make sure the cables are in place and in good condition if the hashboard is missing.
4. CRC error counter is High
Solution:
The chips might not be stable. To test, try to reload the firmware and swap out the PSU.
5. Network Issue
Solution:
Look into the network configuration, ethernet cable, connectors, routers, or switches. It is advised to seek advice from a qualified network engineer.
6. Overtemp Protection
If the temperature is too high, the miner will stop working and you could find below words in the kernel log:
Read Bitmain Antminer S9 Series High-Temperature Alert and Protection to get more detailed instructions.
7. Pool Connecting Issue
Solution:
a. Verify that you entered the correct pool address.
b. Ping the pool to see if it’s connected.
c. Test the network to see if it’s normal.
