Using the new PSU of the Bitmain Antminer S9 series, this post will demonstrate what you should and shouldn’t do.
It’s crucial to understand safe PSU usage. PSU usage mistakes can have serious repercussions.
usage precautions for the PSU. It applies to all PSUs in the APW series.
10 Do’s to Follow
1. Bitmain official does not sell or include an AC cable/power cord with our PSUs because there are more than a dozen different types of AC power plugs and sockets in use today. Purchase one that complies with local regulations and is compatible with power outlets in your area. The C13 cord, a typical desktop power cord, is what the APW series makes use of.
- The power cord needs to be at least 10 A.
- Should be no longer than 1.5 meters.
- Cross sectional area of cable’s copper conductor should not be smaller than 1 mm2
2. Check to see if the voltage and power outlets in your area meet the PSU and Bitmain Antminer S9 series miner requirements. The output voltage from the outlet or socket needs to match the starting voltage needed by the power supply unit (PSU).
Check the PSU starting voltage in their specifications
Ensure that the PSU’s input voltage must range from 210 V to 240 V. The PSU’s output voltage must meet the Bitmain Antminer S9 series’ requirements.
3. Before using, check the PSU to make sure it is in good condition and was not damaged during shipping; if it was, it cannot be used.
4. Verify the proper grounding and wiring of the power supply.

5. Install lightning protection if you don’t want your equipment to be damaged by lightning.
6. Install the PSU in an area with free airflow and no obstructions to it.
7. Reduce the PSU’s output to significantly increase its lifespan.
- We advise limiting the loading power to no more than 90% of the PSU’s rated power.
8. Maintain a PSU temperature of less than 50 °C. Every time the temperature rises by 10 degrees Celsius, the PSU’s half-life decreases.
9. The hash boards and control board of the miner should be correctly connected to the positive and negative ports of the D/C power 6-pin connectors.
*NOTE: Yellow – Positive; Black – Negative
10. Verify the tightness of the screws holding the power cables to the PSU terminal.
5 Don’ts to Follow
1. When the PSU is powered on, avoid plugging or unplugging its power connectors. Prior to plugging in or unplugging, make sure the power has been turned off. Voltaic arcs caused by too much DC can harm DC output terminals and present a fire risk.
2. The PSU should not be used in confined or enclosed spaces. The PSU cannot have anything obstructing the airflow.
3. Additionally, the PSU cannot be installed in a location with high levels of humidity, salt content, or condensation.
4. If a PSU seems damaged, don’t try to power it.
5. Never attempt to disassemble or fix the PSU by yourself. Investigate any issues you find with your PSU and/or send it back to us for service.
